David's Review of "The Secret Life of Bees"
Here. Just because it's sentimental doesn't mean it still can't be good.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did read the novel for a book club months back. Your review is quite parallel to the things the club and I discussed about the book. Since I enjoyed the book, the movie does sound good.
The casting seems right, too, except Jennifer Hudson for Rosaleen, because I recall Rosaleen in the book being a middle-aged woman. Then again, it's a very minor thing anyway. :-)

I could see that role being played by someone older. Hudson was still very good, though.
